Feedly day 3

The first article I read about was how the top Us Marine ordered for all of the confederate flags and paraphernalia to be removed from marine bases worldwide. This was one of the many items Commandment General David Berger stated in his memo on http://Military.com. He also is trying to put woman in more combat positions as well as updating recruitment policies for people with prior domestic abuse convictions. The decision to take down the flags began with the shooting of an African American church in Charlestown by a white supremacist named Dylann Roof. The shooter posed with a confederate Flagg on Instagram prior to the attack. Another reason for the ordinance is because 36% of active duty troops have witnessed shite nationalism or racist ideals from other troops.
The second article I read was more humorous. It has to do with the developing coronavirus, but not the virus itself, actually how its impacting sales of one of Americas favorite beers Corona. YouGov polled US adults on which beers they were drinking by measuring them with a “Buzz Score”. Corona originally had a 75 but not it has dropped down to 51. When asking the parent company of corona if sales decline they stated sales are still strong and the poll is irrelevant because drinkers know there isn’t any connection between the beer and the virus. The article then dives deep into the virus and how it’s affected people.

The topics today were very different from ones before. They were talking about Trump as well as the corona virus and military. The headlines told me people are worried about Trump and that people are scared about the coronavirus. The articles I read focused on the marines and sales of corona. The military article was informed by research on http://military.com. The Corona article was informed by the parent company, google, as well as YouGov poll. Both articles did not have an opinion on any of the subject matter. They simply informed us which is what a digital journalist is supposed to do. Both articles followed an informative story structure.

Day 2 on Feedly

The first article I read was about a mother and daughter being beaten for speaking Spanish rather than English this week in Boston. Apparently the attack consisted of biting beating punching and kicking. In the midst of the assault the attackers yelled things like “this is America” and “Go back to your country”. The investigators are looking into attack as a hate crime. Apparently no arrests have been made but investigators are still looking for the two attackers. Witnesses said the woman had a verbal argument and the attackers hit back to defend themselves another said the attackers just attacked and hit witnesses who tried to separate the women.

The second article I read was about Justin Bieber releasing his new Music video for his song changes on twitter as well as apple music. Bieber uses different seasons in the song to portray the changes he’s gone through recently and to show us some consistencies. Justin Bieber explains that his song shows some days where you want to push and keep going. Some of the other days portrayed in the song portray days where you just want to do nothing.

The spread of topics today were news and pop culture. One very much so went in depth into an incident that occurred and how they were handling it while the other simply reported about a new video in the entertainment industry and the meaning behind it. The headlines told me exactly what to expect from each article. The articles focused on an incident that occurred as well as a new music video release. The articles focused on the deeper meaning behind both topics. Unlike the article I read about an assault from yesterday this one wasn’t just blatantly reporting the incident it was talking about what was going to happen and what was happening. Both articles reflected good journalism because they put out the information for usto interpret. An example of this in the first article is how it didn’t side with anyone, one of the witnesses said the victims attacked first. Both followed an informative story structure.

First day of Feedly

The topics were pretty well spread out on Feedly. They ranged from politics to news stories to fun articles as well. The first article I read about was about a woman being declared insane after she killed her son and injured her husband in a stabbing incident in 2017. Her name is Ebony Olowu and she was 37 when a judge found her not guilty for the stabbing due to insanity. She had stabbed her husband and told him “he had to die”. When the police arrived on scene she was found with slits on her wrists. Down the line they found her guilty of murder attempted murder felony could abuse as well as assault. Psychiatrists said she suffered from ptsd and depression. She told the psychiatrists that God had said for her to kill her son.

The second article I read about was how the Summer Olympic Games would play out with the developing corona virus. This is relevant because many people have begun to worry about the spread of this virus and how it would affect where the games are hosted. Japan still has their mind set on hosting the summer Olympic games despite the outbreak. I believe the first article was informed based off police reports and court trials. I think the second one was informed based off of interviews as well as medical research. The authors of the articles I read did what a journalist was supposed to do, and they supplied me with factual information rather than opinion based. This let me form my own opinion on the matter just with the information given. The first article followed a police report like structure. There were lines of information each helping to answer the questions I posed from the last. The second was definitely more information based because it was more of a topic that could be reported more in depth on. It had pictures and charts showing where the virus had spread.
